We would like to cordially invite you to our end of the year concert, QED!

This year, our last concert will take place at Augustana Lutherin Church,

Located at the corner of 55th and Woodlawn Avenue.

This was a grand undertaking for us, and we were thrilled to have been a part of such an occasion. We are very grateful for the opportunity to be able to perform on stage with extremely talented musicians and be directed by Jay Friedman. We would like to thank all of our friends, family, and patrons for attending the concert and supporting us the entire way. Most importantly, we would like to express undying gratitude to our conductor, Bruce Tammen, for the way he has taught, led, and mentored us in musicianship and life.

On Monday, forces were just under 350, which was adequate to Mahler’s intent of getting “the whole universe … to ring and resound.”…

Music director Jay Friedman frequently pushed his forces to their limits, pressing on relentlessly in the extroverted first part and slowing dramatically for the open-hearted euphoria of Part Two. …

But when the double chorus sang and the eight vocalists relaxed, you often felt dedication that made up for a sagging orchestral line or forced vocal solo.

Chicago Classical Review wrote:

What was striking, however, was how much of the grandeur, excitement and beauty of this extraordinary work was communicated, and indeed, came through with great force and eloquence. From the bracing opening organ blast and choral explosion of Veni creator spiritus, we were launched on our way. …

The combined choral forces sang with surprising cohesion and clarity, rising to the majestic challenges of Part Two with aplomb. Kudos to Friedman, the orchestra’s management and all involved for their can-do spirit in not only attempting to scale Mahler’s massive symphony but doing so successfully.

Chicago Men’s A Cappella cordially invites you to our 4th Annual Christmas Concerts on December 5th!

The concerts will be held at the Hyde Park Union Church located at 56th Street and Woodlawn Avenue. There will be two concert times that evening, 7pm and 9:30pm. Tickets will be available at the door: $10 for adults, $5 with UCID, and free for children 10 and under.

CMAC will join Chicago Chorale, the choirs of Concordia University, the Oak Park Symphony chorus, and the Oak Park Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Jay Friedman, in Gustav Mahler’s Symphony #8, “The Symphony of a Thousand,” April 19, 2010, at Chicago’s Symphony Center.

Join us for a song and tear-filled evening as we say good-bye to graduating seniors and the end of another year at the University of Chicago. Our selection will range from favorite Chicago anthems and drinking songs to Bossa Nova to late French Romantic. Tickets are available from your favorite CMAC fellow,  at the Reynolds Club from 11-2 from June 1-5, or at the door, though space is not guaranteed.

The performance will take place at Hyde Park Union Church located at 5600 S. Woodlawn Ave (at the corner of 56th and Woodlawn)

CMAC always prides itself on being a brotherly male chorus group; we love to sing, but we also enjoy each other’s company. When we are together, however, there is one thing we can never get enough of: Sausages.

On Monday, February 2nd, CMAC will be serving FREE sausages (with sauerkraut) and pop in the McCormick Tribune Lounge from 8-10pm. It is an opportunity to see CMAC perform a few songs (at 8pm), but also to relax with fellow sausage lovers.

It has been sometime since our last update, but we wanted to let you know of several exciting news. First, we have nearly doubled our numbers this year! We welcome our newest members with a hearty embrace and a warm rendition of Landlord Fill the Flowing Bowl.

We are also very excited to welcome you to our upcoming third annual Christmas Concert!

On a cold December night, what better way to spend time with your loved ones than to come to the Christmas Concert? There will be two concerts that evening, with all of the proceeds from the earlier concert benefiting CPS’s William H. Ray Elementary.

We know that this summer has been extraordinarily long for you, no thanks to the late start of the quarter system at the U of C. Your hair is unkempt, your throat scratchy, and your breath less than pleasant. While we can’t help you in the hygiene department, you might find that CMAC is the perfect solution to that scratchy voice…

Because it’s that time of year again to audition for the strappingest furniture movers around campus (that’s us! It’s a gag from our last concert). We are always looking out for fresh talent, so no matter whether you’ve solo’d at Carnegie Hall (as our conductor, Bruce, has done), or you’ve mastered the art of nightly serenading senorita shower head, please click the Audition Info link on the right side of the page to find out more information about auditioning for CMAC.

On the first day of your arrival, as you part ways with your family (no doubt with tears in their eyes), and join the rest of your classmates, be on the lookout for CMAC, for we will be singing under the Hull Gate. You won’t miss us!
