Displaying a propensity for barbarism from a tender age, Jake forsook his rural Tennessee home in 1833 for life as a river-rat along the great Mississippi, tirelessly searching for action and violence to quench his inexhaustible blood-lust. Shot in the chest by a damned Maltese sailor during a bar room brawl in New Orleans, Jake recovered and made his way westward into Texas by fair means and foul. Following another beer-besotted conflict with a barman in Nacogdoches, Jake joined a rough company of U.S. cavalrymen fighting Comanche bandits across the Mexican border. After a bloody Indian ambush that left all of his compatriots dead, Jake joined a semi-legal band of marauders and wrecked havoc across the American Southwest before meeting an unspeakably gruesome end in an outhouse… Or on second thought, perhaps this was just some book he read.
